My brother recently told me about one of his boyhood friends being involved in the publication of a book on the history of the town where we grew up.

My copy arrived from Western Australia today!! It's a collection of stories told by people who arrived in the town like we did, in the mid-to-late 1950s. The town was brand new, built to support the new BP oil refinery and the BHP steel rolling mill. We had already been in the country for over 6 years but many of the residents were newly arrived from England and Europe. There was no such thing as ESL classes so new-comers were paired up with a fellow countryman who already had a grasp of English.

I recognize a lot of the names, teachers, and streets, but it's a 240 page trade paperback so it'll take a while to get through.
