Emergency management officials expect the two largest fires southeast of Portland will soon merge -- the Beachie Creek and Riverside fires.

For comparison's sake, the Camp Fire from 2018 that hit Northern California -- and especially the town of Paradise -- burned a little less than 155,000 acres. And it was the most expensive natural disaster in 2018.
When the Beachie Creek and Riverside fires merge, they will cover a burned area of about 310,000 to 325,000 acres.
And the number of people evacuated will likely rise from 500,000 to 800,000 over the weekend.
