If that was the case, I'm pretty sure that the doctor would have disappeared before this report as I'm pretty sure the Chargers still covered

Oh, wait. This would be a fun, convoluted plot.
So say our doctor does indeed have a gambling problem. However, he hasn't bet against the Chargers but instead for them.
He's been present at the practices and thus knows the Chargers don't have a hope with Tyrod at QB but the new rookie has looked good....
