He (Scalzi) says there is an "element" that say "what's the point?" I don't think you are part of that, since you say "I totally get the point."

I think "defeatist pieces of shit" are the portion that say "none of that matters, why even bother putting it out there, no one cares" and make no effort.
It *is* important, and it *should* be out there (it should have from the start), and you (and others) see that it sounds like.
