The Forum was in disrepair and it was bought by a church with a huge congregation that had their services in it. They were going broke and couldn't -- (edited)

keep it up, so Prince did the shows and gave them the money. They ended up selling it to Madison Square Garden who did a huge, expensive remodel. They have tons of shows. It's where the Lakers, Kings and Clippers used to play and there's tons of history. The Clippers want out of Staples Center to have their own place, so they contracted to build a basketball arena/concert venue next to the Rams new stadium. Unfortunately, the Forum is right there too, they lost part of their parking lot for the Rams complex, which has condos, apartments, a mall, it's a mini city. The Forum sued to stop the Clippers and they were in litigation for a year when Steve Ballmer decided it was taking too long and bought the Forum just so they could build their stadium nearby. I'm hoping he doesn't tear it down. So much history.
