I'm sure there is a why, but who knows what goes on in people's heads that causes them to lie to pollsters.

To me it's pointless trying to figure out the why of it. It would seem to me to be more pertinent to ask oneself, does such an effect exist, and if you come to the conclusion that it does, then what effect will this have on the election.
