TTIS: This relates to my asking a bunch of auto-insurance questions yesterday - do I have any chance of getting any $$ back from my current insurer?

After finding a new, cheaper insurer yesterday, I called my old company to cancel my current policy. Of course, they told me they didn't want me to leave, yada yada, and I was transferred to a customer service rep who quoted me on a MD rate.

insurance rep: Oh, well the reason you've been paying so much per month is because RI rates and MD rates really differ. You've been paying RI rates all this time.

me: Well, I moved almost a year ago, and you not only changed my address/information to my current address in MD, but you also raised my rates slightly when this happened. When I called about it, you told me it was because of a) a new car; and b) a new living area.

rep: Oh, it was probably only because of the car.

(The new rate is calculated, and it is $90/mo less than my old RI rate.)

me: Is there a way of getting back that $90/mo that I have been charged since I moved/you changed my address?

rep: No, unfortunately, it is just like if you were going to a new insurer. (????)

(After this conversation, I realized that I had the same car when I lived in RI, so this whole 'new vehicle' thing would have happened when I was still in RI. I didn't get the new vehicle after I moved, so that whole 'your rates were raised because of a different vehicle' thing wouldn't make sense.

Do you think I have any chance of fighting and getting that $90/mo back? At this point, I'd even take, say, 6 months worth. I don't even need it to go back to the date I moved. I'll just fight the date my policy renewed (January of this year). It is set to renew again in July. Would I have any more chance of getting any money back if I threaten to cancel again? Or am I SOL?
