I think you should participate.

If for no other reason, writing stuff out forces you to think about it at a deeper level, and I'll bet that you end up having a little epiphany or two that will prove helpful.

Besides, little above-and-beyond things like this have a way of being noticed in ways that you can't anticipate at this moment.
