My very brief search for the quote history behind just because something can be done doesn't mean it should ended with an attribution to Sherilyn Kenyon of “Just because you can doesn't mean you should.” This shocked me as I thought surely the quote is older than Sherrilyn Kenyon. I could search more, but then my search would not be very brief, and I feel any discussion of Stubborn Soda Black Cherry Tarragon should be very brief. And then the discussion and the soda that spawned it should be forgotten.
Stubborn Soda is PepsiCo's attempt at a high end natural soda. I probably should have just had and reviewed Stubborn Soda Draft Cola or Stubborn Classic Root Beer. But I veered straight into the Black Cherry Tarragon as soon as I saw it, violating two logical corollaries of Sherrilyn Kenyon's adage : "Just because two flavors can be combined, it doesn't mean that they should" and "Just because you can order an item on the menu, it doesn't mean you should ignore the little voice in the back of your head"
As you drink Black Cherry Tarragon, you are first hit with the sweet familiar taste of what promises to be a cherry cola. Then, much like a healthy person's heart can be stopped short by being hit with a defibrillator, the taste is immediately flatlined by the overwhelming taste of green, like a green smoothie consisting mainly of kelp and algae. Then the two flavors combine into what could be charitably be called an earthy taste, or less charitably and perhaps more accurately as sweet dirt.
And in the dirt is where I shall leave this soda.
