I could see that. I just haven't been able to find any actual objective studies or analyses that provide a solid conclusion either way.

538 ran a great story at the end of September, but even their explanations were kind of wishy-washy. And the studies they cited didn't seem terribly conclusive either -- more along the lines of "we haven't found firm evidence of the shy voter effect yet, but it could still exist."
