Sort of a mix of the following:
Backroom deal. GOP thinks/knows they are going to get creamed. They've finally realized this, and the damage it's doing to the party. Backroom deal cut with high level Dems promising not to push certain things through if they don't halt election.
GOP thinks/knows they are going to get creamed. They've finally realized this, and the damage it's doing to the party. Someone high up (in the "old" party) convinced them not to fight it or it will be worse for the party long term. Sort of a let it happen and don't taint us even more and we may recover.
Roberts basically holding the court/threatening them. Folks seem to think Roberts can get one of the conservative judges on his side with this. And that if they don't side with him there's issues.
