Your first mistake is overestimating the number of sane people in this country.

You're also forgetting about stupid people, stubborn people (people who would be asked how they feel about a number of issues and would still vote R when told all their answers matched D candidates), racists who are otherwise sane and smart and people who only seem to care about other people's ability to get an abortion. Maybe others, too.
