The right-wing propaganda machine (talk radio, Fox News, Reddit, etc) is very effective because they perfectly okay with lying and fear-mongering.

This may be a basic problem with freedom of speech -- the liars have an easier time swaying people. And I think human nature means we are naturally easily to lead, naturally self-concerned, naturally fearful. I think those traits gave us an evolutionary advantage and it's not easy to overcome them.
