We swung wildly left with Obama, over-corrected with Trump. We're one step back to the left, but it seriously uncovered some deep, DEEP rooted issues with this country. Unless we address them and people, culture, and attitudes change (doubtful), it's going to be a very slow crawl towards back to being a true "leader by example."
