You lose a Presidential race, you are basically done as a forward facing person. McCain never lost his day job

Rimney is a rarity in how he continued on to run for a lesser role. Abrams wasn’t finished, she didn’t get her job but that job was never the end-all.
And given Hillary was front and center for 24 years...she had served her time. It was time to fade away.
