It sure seemed like a lot of places were banking on the "do nothing and it takes care of itself" strategy just working out fine. I hadn't specifically thought of it this way, but the herd immunity strategy bucked up against every pandemic in the history of pandemics. This strategy has literally never worked and only through mass death or active intervention has any pandemic burned itself out. (Plus they come back)
