Without a doubt, they hold more things back now. It makes for better television. (spoils)

Take the Bob Saget reveal. They were all over him, but no one even mentioned his name up to that point.
I also think there might be some gamesmanship with the first impression clues. If you know who it is immediately, you can drop it int he box and just sit back and watch the others flail about, then drop the bomb at the end for all the props.
