Police brutality, when it's demonstrated to people, is one thing that gets near universal panning. But it doesn't get viewed in a vacuum.

Rightly or wrongly, there were wide swaths of people who thought the choice was "to much policing" vs "no policing". We can talk about how that came about, but that's what they viewed as their options, and "no policing" is always going to lose.
