I think what the last 4 years has shown us is that like all bullies, the GOP and many of its voters are, at heart, cowards.

They'll be proudly racist and bigoted in public when it looks safe and continue to be proudly bigoted and racist in private now that being vocal can hurt them.
They will privately cheer on the Qanon folks and the anti-government folks because they know those people vote for the GOP and encouraging them makes it harder for Dems to succeed at governing. And that plays into the whole GOP talking point that the government just does not work.
