Here is the situation:
Moved to seattle took a great job. I love this job love this place. Lost of challeneges and lots of work. Turning the place from having an outbound call center to an inbound - customer sat from 82% to 94% in a year. Developed process and policy etc. Been working here 18 months and have taken 3 days off. Work 6:30-5p almost every day and usually 2-3 hours every other sat.
After 12-14 months we were rocking. Me and my team were trusted and doing great things customers were loving us.
They Riffed my boss and gave me his job and mine at about 8 months in maybe 9. No pay raise or title change but my VP told me it was coming and I deserved it.
I got my review and I was rated a 1 (on scale of 1-5 5 = suck 1= far exceed )
Well about 6 months aho we hired this lady to be our product manager and she came in. Well my GM/VP was struggling with the corp culture that was starting to infect this business from the SVP.
About 2-3 months ago he told me privately he was going to walk away and be RIFFed voluntarily. He told me "I dont like where this is going and you are doing amazing work but I am going to guess oyu will not like whats coming so update your resume and if I get somewhere that needs a tech manager I will be giving you a wink about it" (cant solicit)
Well I was part of the team that reviewed the options for replacing him as VP and this lady seemed pretty easy going - seemed like she would be a good leader - said she was hands off and trusted people to do what they need to do since she has no institiutional memory etc.
She got the job now a note...she becamne our director of prioduct management and that was step up from her old job..then now suddenly VP - I know that can be scary so I figured she would focus on what she knew and trust people who were being successful.
More background...my support team had out revenue taget increased 20% this year and so far we are exceeding that by an extra 5% - we are the only group in the BU meeting let alone exceeding our goals
Well now last 2 months have been a micromanaing hell. I was brought in given a sledge hammer and told to break it and fix it. The people who didnt like my stayle of getting it done - never complained to the old GM as well I was the star QB - now suddenly he is gone the new lady has no vision to the past and now the haters are whispering in her ear and shes all up in my cornflakes.
I have never seen political capital disappear THAT fast. She asks 8 billion questions about how we do support and run support. My metrics are unassaible as I fudge them a little negative to give me room that if someone pushes on me ai have a reserve of good numbers I can "find" and get even better when challenged.
Old GM was good about open and transparent communication. This one tells her mgrs who tell their managers who tell teh staff - staff HATES this as do it. I challenged a decision made at one point by the SVP and her as bad business decision and provied it to be bad and the VP of finance heard about it and stopped the closure of my Missouri office for a year so we coudl budget. I was right but doesnt help.
Shes never been tech and this product is very complicated and takes 6-8 months to train a support person and she asked cant we just hire anyone with tech knowledge to support this right away...NO
I spend hours justifying why things we do are teh way they are and why they need to stay that way to stay successful. I think I am seen as the old guys "boy" and shes beating at me trying to pick at how I communicate and what I communicate to my staff - I am very open witht them and theya re VERY loyal to me - several have said if I ever leave and have positions they want to come and its the rockstars and I hope I can do that for them. I think she feels threatened that I have a lot of respect at corporate about my metrics and success and my staff loyalty and my refusal to do stupid shit if its not in the best interest in the customer.
Work went from GOD I LOVE dworking and doing good stuff to not wanting to get up. Her emails come in liek 12-1a sometimes and wake me up (phone email) and they are asking questions about customers that the VP SHOULD IGNORE and nit picking some of my managers. Hell the other morning I had an email ding while I was getting ready for work and saw her name and vomited into the sink
Decided it was time to look for work. So I started.
Some of you who are wise and know much of hte corp way...am I over reaccting, am I doomed unless I can bolt, how can the dude abide and get off the freaking radar when I have like 4 high profile projects that I am working on delivering?
Just looking for general advice, thoughts etc
