Nike is fine with customizers, not people that make bootleg sneakers. Nintendo seems very litigious though.

If you buy the sneakers from Nike they don't care what you do with them. Cut them up, add colors, wash away colors, it's all good to them. I know men and women that make their living selling custom sneakers.
They are not okay with people getting bootleg sneakers from China, making them look like a classic sneaker and then selling them.
I want to make a pair of the Assassins from The Simpsons but I just haven't had the extra loot to buy all the paint and supplies needed. I have the template and I know the sneaker model that works perfectly.
