LCD is probably your most cost-effective, best picture, smallest footprint at that size. existing DirecTV should be just plug and play but

if you want HDTV -- with, which what you are likely to buy being hi-def, you will enjoy if you have it -- you might have to upgrade your DirecTV to be HDTV capable
