From what I gather, the Pi is using a pair of off the shelf WiFi adapters to construct malformed packets to Apple devices to exploit a bug in the iOS

also, in the demo, he used the Pi as a server to receive the stolen photo from the iOS device which the injected code transmitted to it over the air. -- nm
