In response to "Lawyer question: acceptance if a pardon is acceptance if guilt of the crime? Can acceptance of a pardon be used as evidence of guilt in other" by TWuG

Nope. Accepting a pardon is not an expression of guilt.

The fundamental mechanic of a pardon is an executive (President or Governor) essentially vetoing the judicial branch. It is -- supposed to be -- a recognition that the judicial system got it wrong in some way.

Commutation and pardon are both a form of "executive clemency." A commutation reduces the sentence, fine, or other punishment for a crime. A pardon fully excuses the crime as if it never happened.
