In response to "they could care less." by decline

While Apple's a manufacturer as well as retailer so they may not count but they seem to have figured it out

There's no stories about people paying others to wait in line, heck, there's no lines any more as Apple seemingly figured out the online sale. Additionally Apple is more than happy to take your order (and $$$) money now and just tell you when they're going to ship your new phone. So the initial on-sale initial surge of sale results in the customers who ordered 1 hour into the on sale, still get to place an order, they just get the device later. There's no checking back and going through the whole try to place an order again when they're back in stock.

I've wondered why Microsoft and Sony didn't do something similar but I'm guessing that if they did it would upset their retail partners and unlike Apple, Microsoft and Sony need their retail partners.
