The irony being that the money not going to student loan payments would be going back into the economy in ways that will better benefit all society

the thing I don't get is how this helps students going forward? like, the lending practices won't change. so we do this again every four years?

I don't think that's as big an issue as universities charging the maximum for a degree, based on the student's future earnings in an uncertain jobs
