Worthwhile Canadian Music Initiative - 2008

2008: Years and Years Pay Off ... Are You Listening?

The deepest year to date leads off with the debut from Arkells, with a socially conscious sound with a bit of an attitude that they annoyingly never reproduced for future records. The Pack a.d. refined their dirty blues sound a bit for their first proper record, while Wolf Parade avoided the sophomore slump. Some breakthroughs here for hard rock with Black Mountain, Fucked Up and Cancer Bats, while Serena Ryder, Hey Rosetta!, Tokyo Police Club, Coeur de Pirate and Plants and Aminals make their first appearances here. A couple of international hits in the hip hop world here with Wavin' Flag and Dangerous.
