Suddenly Alex Padilla is having second thoughts.

But this would be a really interesting thing to look at historically, at least the past 100 years when we started directly electing senators. I wonder if it would vary based on when the appointment took place, i.e. filling the remainder of a term vs. filling the seat until a special election.

I could nerd out on this.
