But I do think that the visual of armed forces firing on citizens on the steps of the Capitol is one we should all hope to avoid.
I have no idea if that factored here. But I can certainly see the challenge of trying to balance the safety of the government versus forcibly denying the public access to the government that is supposed to belong to them.
None of this is a defense of the insurgents. Personally I would have preferred to see them beaten back with prejudice.
