I think with this I now have a handle on what McConnell is doing. A) McConnell doesn't want to impeach. He think it will essentially martyr Trump to

his followers and might tear apart the party. Especially if he's not certain he can rally enough votes to get him convicted in which case they all have targets on them. B) He does actually think impeachment is warranted and is worried about the time until Trump's term ends. C) He sees Trump yesterday make those dumbass statements in TX and floats the story that he's happy about the impeachment. D) He back channels to Trump that he'll reconsider if Trump does all the right things to turn down the temperature over the next week and leaves without incident. E) He refuses to call back the senate for the trial and then floats a new story that he hasn't made up his mind. Then after that Trump releases this video. He'll now hold off on deciding until the last minute and it will depend on whether Trump sticks to the script (but ultimately he won't vote to convict).
