ANVISA, our FDA-equivalent, approved two vaccines for emergency use.
Bozonaro lost a political battle against my state's governor, who has been pushing for a Chinese vaccine, CoronaVac. Its effectiveness is a bit underwhelming but beats not having anything. Dória, the governor, obviously made a photo-op the second it was approved starting the program with health workers.
Bozo has been more lost than ever, first saying that vaccine is a hoax, then it would get some from India, then failing to do that, then saying he would wait for a Brazilian vaccine (which would at best be ready in Q4), then saying he would not pay for that vaccine, then saying that this is the Brazilian vaccine.
Supposedly, my parents should get their first shots within the next month. That's the state plan, which has been in place for a few months, pending production. The federal plan (which historically is great but needless to say has been mismanaged to the ground by Bozo and his inept generals) is a mess. They first ignored the CoronaVac efforts, then made fun of it, then said they would wait for Pfizer/Moderna/AstraZeneca to be approved, but never made any efforts to pre-purchase any of them. Now they had to backtrack and add the CoronaVac to the federal plans.
I'm pre-registered already, but who know when it will happen. The plan is that 20% of the state's population will get their shots by the end of Q1, which suggests I'll get mine in April or early May.
