It is a minor act of protest, but it is mine

I have been a registered Republican for over 30 years. In 2016 I was shocked to see my party nominate and then elect this buffoon. I felt that I still occupied the same philosophical space but the GOP had moved out from under me. Although that gap widened over the last 4 years, I maintained that leaving the party to the Trumpsters allowed them to win. I felt the best course was to stay with the GOP and to vote for better nominees in the primaries and to vote against Trumpsters in the general election.

Today, I have changed my strategy and switched my party registration. It is my hope that people in the GOP will take note of their falling numbers and take appropriate action to purge insurgents, conspiracy nutjobs, and deniers (science, fact, trust, etc.) from the party, starting with convicting Trump in the Senate.

Regardless, I will no longer associate with the party that tried to destroy our republic.
