I don't understand this notion that "Oh, now a nomination won't mean as much." On the contrary, I think a nomination might now mean more.

For one thing, maybe we can consider even more films that aren't released in December, or that bullshit where it gets a technicality release in a few theaters but then really comes out in January or March.

Also, insert my B2 rants here about how the nominees always have to include the "socially conscious" or "message" films. Those are fine, but they always get nommed at the expense of a slew of good films.

Overkill? Maybe a little. But, my first notion is that this could be good both artistically and financially for the big studios.
