This has always been my problem with multiverses. Spoilers, I guess?

The decade-long MCU paid off because all the heroes were brought together in that one moment in Avengers: Endgame. It worked all along because something that happened in Avengers: Age of Ultron affected what happened in Captain America: Civil War and then affected Black Panther.
I'm going to call out everyone who's chided me for my adherence to continuity and bullshit "Continuity doesn't matter so long as you tell a good story" mantra. Because when Nick Fury appears in the end credits of a movie, or Shuri visits Bucky at the end of Black Panther and the crowd cheers... that's why continuity matters.
