And rent the movie "Camp" for a dramatic depiction of how a straight guy might wind up having gay sex. (spoilers)

The film takes place at a drama camp, so there are many gay boys. The main character is a very good looking straight boy who comes to camp for the first time. All the gay boys like him because he's hot. All the girls like him because he's hot and actually straight. So he starts a romance with one of the girls, and there's one boy in particular who pines for him. Things happen to cause the gay boy to no longer "want him" and to win his affections back the straight boy makes an offer to have sex with him and tries to seduce him.
It's not the norm and it seems to be based on an odd combination of narcissism and insecurity, but it's about the ultimate need to be desired. I think the acting profession probably has a higher percentage of these type of people than other groups do. But I think ty's point is that there are all kinds of people out there with different mixtures of attractions, desires, needs, and behavior, and that maybe some people were projecting "I would never..." to "No one would ever..."
Oh, and Camp is a really fun movie.
