what do they call the machine that carves, sculpts something out of a block that is computer driven, I see custom car builders use it...

to recreate metal parts, to make custom wheels out of a solid block of aluminum.
i guess its the opposite of 3d printing as you are removing material, not building material up layer by layer

The reason I asked was I was trying to describe the machine my dentist used to make my crown while I waited, he called it a 3d printer but its not.
