I just didn't realize how expensive yarn can be. Acrylic is cheap but bad for rugs. Wool is what you want but damn is it spendy.
I'm searching for deal on cotton which is a nice medium between the two.

are their knitting/etc groups on FB local to NYC that maybe have posts about deals on supplies? -- nm

I haven't looked into groups yet but reddit has been a good resource for sites that sell yarn.
