FWIW I don't think the initial deliveries will be EV.

It wasn't an absolute mandate of the original RFP requirements and near as I can read, any possible bonus points for EV / Hybrid configurations may have been lessened during the Trump administration.
At the same time, I could see Ford eventually figuring it out and using it as a selling point for the brand.
Bizarrely, one of the things I read was that input from the delivery people is a desire for the the vehicle to be more crash resistant. The example of the driver getting stuff out of the back vehicle and a vehicle sideswiping the delivery vehicle was one example. That particular request sounds like something that Oshkosh could be uniquely qualified to factor into the design.
The other thing is that all of the finalists vehicles were put into service so maybe the Oshkosh / Ford vehicle just worked better? Yeah, probably too optimistic.
