So, I thought I diabetes'd myself.
I haven't been feeling well so I did what's expected and looked up symptoms on the internet. Tingling and numbness in the extremities, tiredness, blurry vision, frequent urination, increased appetite... everything except the weight loss.
So I did the reasonable thing and got myself a blood glucose tester. Now, to be clear, I'm deeply hemophobic. The sight of blood makes me light-headed. But I had to know...
So yesterday I sat there on the bathroom floor with the jabber (which I call Jabby McStabby) against my finger forever until I accidentally set it off and tested it... result "LO". WTF? I guess I need more blood? GREAT! Another jab and another test later... and then two more tests later... and I think I don't have diabetes. Probably just heart disease or something. Also, me and Jabby McStabby are good friends now. Nothing better to getting over a phobia than just doing it. Now it's just jab-jab-jab!
Test results:
100 (1 hour before dinner)
104 (2 hours after dinner)
114 (this morning)
Is it normal for it to be higher after being asleep for 8 hours? I understand that the meter's test results are about 20% lower than a lab test, but that still puts me considerably below the bottom threshold of 140 that WebMD says is the range for "pre-diabetic".
Also, I mean no disrespect to anyone with diabetes. This is a serious illness that requires constant monitoring to keep in check and my heart and respect goes out to anyone who has to deal with it regularly.
