I mean it very well may.

But Francis Ford Coppola tinkers with Godfather all the time.

Lots of movies get directors cut. Certainly this is the most ambitious one.

What would have been a debacle is if they had released the 4 hour cut without finished effects and edits and music like HBO/Warner Execs wanted to.
