we went to a Michlein starred Alain Ducasse resto for lunch one day and got the degustation. We bought a moderately priced and tasty bottle of wine at first and then mel splurged for a ridiculously priced 600 euro bottle - I'm literally still in shock over this. When that happened the Captain - who earlier had sneered at me for being an uncouth Amurican came over and started pouring our wine, telling jokes, smiling a lot and offering us a bunch of free stuff. It was apparent and so...ugh, but fun at the same time. And the difference between the 2 wines was Night and Day, but the pricing was still ridiculous.
