Ah yes, the Big East (and Memphis State) Final Four!

Villanova in '85, NC State in '83, and Kansas in '88 were such unexpected champs that it added fuel to the fire that CBS started when it began ramping up coverage in '82.
Suddenly, a lot more teams looked like they had a chance. As a result, more viewers with connections to those teams tuned in. It was a beautiful thing.
(Of course, we didn't have another champ below the 3 line until 1997 or one below the 4 line until 2014, but you don't want them to win TOO often or it loses what makes it special.)
