Kansas in '88 is why I root for the Jayhawks today. I fell in love with that team and that run. I jumped on the bandwagon and couldn't jump off.

I still root for St. John's but they haven't been good or all that fun to watch for a very long time.
For as much as this city loves basketball, it's close to being the #1 sport in the city, we have terrible college basketball programs. Not one right now is a destination for anyone with talent. All of the NYC kids leave to go play around the country.
St. John's can't even recruit in its own backyard these days.
So, I wound up rooting for Kansas was I was 11 and you can't be a front runner so I had to stick with them for life. :-) Went through the sanctions, some lean years and then Roy brought us back to prominence before Self got us to the promised land.
