Times Sq. is a fine area for being in the middle of things and having easy access to many subway lines to get you anywhere you want.

If I was picking an area and money wasn't a big issue I'd stay downtown by Chelsea, Tribeca or the West Village. Crazy expensive downtown though. But it's where you'll find so much to do and some of the best places to eat.

        Newark is easy peasy. You take the airtran to the train station and there is a booth to buy tickets - decline Apr 1, 08:11 1
        
        They might have changed it but last I saw there was a $5 surcharge for buying tickets from the conductor on board. Should be vending machines there at the station. -- (edited) - znufrii Apr 1, 08:15
