To clarify, after the CW bailed on Netflix, its parents - basically Paramount/Viacom and WarnerMedia - agreed to bring its content to HBO Max.

Because of the strange hybrid that is The CW (a merger of Paramount's UPN and Warner's The WB), the CW is basically run by Paramount but the content is produced by Warner. Thus, Warner owns the shows and will air them where the choose. In the increasingly insular world of streaming, that means HBO Max gets back catalog and new episodes of most shows and as content deals expire with other services, more of that content will continue to move to HBO Max.
