Speaking of balloons, solve this physics phenomenon -- (edited)

In my brother's we set up a target and thought it would be great to shoot a birthday balloon with an arrow. So we brought a fresh helium filled gallon from inside and tied it in front of the target, floating in direct sunlight. Air temp about 70.

Within a few minutes the balloon had shriveled and sank to the ground. We thought it must have a pinhole, so we brought out a second balloon. Without any contact from the arrow it did the same thing.
