Soft serve is just soft ice cream. Custard is very similar to ice cream but with added egg yolks making it denser, creamier and richer. It also takes - Krusty Apr 23, 14:36

original recipe was called frozen custard, american test kitchen has you make a custard first then ice it, but that tastes too much like store bought - zeitgeist Apr 23, 14:31
