I live in central PA. I would guess that one in ten or twelve cars on the road here is a subaru of some vintage/make.

I don't see ads so I have no idea what you're talking about but if you asked me to name the most popular car brands where I live, I think subaru would be 3 or 4.
VW would be lower.
