I think the idea that a random team can aspire to reach a higher station on merit is a great idea. I wish American sports would embrace some of it

We already have a Super League here with MLB. Ask the non Yankee/Cards/Dodger/Red Sox/ Giants/ Cubs fans what MLB does for them.
ESPN would go broke if they had to actually spread the wealth to the other 24 teams.
Europe’s football needs to even out some of the issues on payroll but you at least have teams that care the entire year. In American sports, if you suck, or are even an also-ran, you’re done caring by 2/3 of the way through the year. Introduce relegation and things matter far more to more people.
At least in the EPL, there are half a dozen contenders...in Spain, Barca and Real Madrid have both finished in the top 3 every year since 2003. That’s awful. And yet, they felt a need to want to prove less but earn more. Fuck em.
