1 - There’s a lot of options for transferring to a new phone. A lot of what you use on your phone is now stored “in the cloud”. If you use iOS or Android, it’s likely that your contacts, message history, apps, etc., are all saved by Apple or Google so when you sign into a new phone, part of the set up is going to be copying all that data - automatically, without your intervention - to the new phone.
2 - Yep, factory reset.
